Brokers pay in about 30 days in general. The gimmicks start there with factoring companies wanting to buy your receivables for a percentage. Most brokers have a quick pay for 3%. Your insurance comes out whether you are running or not making a profit or not. Fuel every day. Most guys say you need about 60days of cash. I just ran on a bank card and payed it off when it came due. I still do that but keep more than I spend. I remember starting out I was leased to a guy trying to run all over the country driving as much time as I could get in. I looked at all my records after 6 mos. and told my wife I don’t see how anyone makes any money doing this. I am not trying to be a downer but IMHO a fellow needs to be able to call his own shots. How do you do that starting out, with no experience. No freight, or reputation, no contacts, and no one to learn from makes this learning curve longer than it needs to be. This forum is very beneficial, I found a wealth of intel here. My suggestion it to hook up with someone with years experience and learn with them. If you are able to get some good paying freight out of your location that is a way to start building. I don’t have a short answer to your question. I will say think about longevity how do I stay in operation 6 mos. then one year and so forth.

I started with half that back in 1996, but I also had a big line of credit available to me.

You’ll probably need 10k just for insurance.

Start with getting a quote on insurance..

I guess it all depends on how committed/motivated you are to make this happen.
