I would not want one in a truck today at all, but I bought a loader today, and I had forgotten how well and fast they bust off when you hit the starter. I sure hadn't forgotten how loud they are, it even came with a set of ear muffs. lol

Here's one in an old GM bus with an air starter. Pay attention to the guy in the back window. LOL.

I learned how to drive in a 1972 GMC with a 318 Detroit and a split 8 transmission. If you missed a gear, you just pulled over and stopped because you would never find that gear!
booley, FlaSwampRat, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 2 others Thank this. -
Those air starts are alot of fun.
The ones we had had relatively big tanks so provided about 10 seconds of crank, usually enough to wake up a cold engine.
Tend to forget alot about those old engines. The main thing is to recognize when and if they run away and how to starve them if they did. (Or run....)bzinger Thanks this. -
I'd love to put something like a 6V53 into an old pickup. Why? Because Cummins are overrated.
Crude Truckin', pushbroom, MACK E-6 and 4 others Thank this. -
I would also confess that if I found one with a little wear and tear I would trade in the old 4x4 I got for one of those. We can do well with a 2wd in my area. If weight is needed just cut a few trees and toss into bed and slap on stud tires for ice. -
Sounds like the old Maxidine with the 6 speed tranny.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
They didn’t call em screaming Jimmies for nothing!
Rideandrepair, FlaSwampRat, okiedokie and 1 other person Thank this.
