I have a set on the steers that are probly as old as the truck (2001) last set of steers I pulled off at 190k and put them on a trailer to finish them out. Truck has 1m miles. I’ve had it 4 years and never done an alignment yet.

Course the drives are perfect at 170k miles currently without balancing of any kind.

I like the centramatics because I do my own tire work and no way to roll balance them at home.

    I'll help resurrect this thread....
I've "been told" that spin balance with centramatics is bad. Opinions?

I'd love to see someone try to explain how it would be "bad"? The two cancel each other out? Union rules? Time of the month? Family feud? What?

I 've never tried the two in combination and have also been told not to do it. You have two different diameters throwing weight and the result would be out of sync masses in two different but connected orbits.
Sometimes too much of good thing isn't a good thing.

I can see that, maybe, with beads and centramatics, but static weights from a spin balance and then a centramatic when mounted?

I don't think anyone would be as smart as to spin balance with a centramatic attached... ?

Well, I guess my thinking was when the lead weight is at the top ,or apex and the bead in the centramatic is (mostly?) In the bottom half. I'm assuming, .maybe incorrectly, that the media isn't evenly distributed through out the circumference of the tube.
I sure could.be all wet. There is a reason why I'm not employed in the physics department at the local college.

The media in the tube is loose, and it moves to where it is needed as the wheel starts turning, based on the imbalance of the tire. If the tire is in balance, the media distributes evenly. It re-balances every time the truck starts rolling again.

Oh, I thought it was mostly centrifugal force, but mitigated to some extent by gravity.

I had my last set of steers spun balanced and installed with centralmatics with no negative effects. My theory was once the tire and rims are balanced the centralmatics will keep them that way. A couple of weeks ago I lost the wheel weights off one of the steers (in Michigan of all places) and never noticed the difference and not seeing a difference in wear.

Static balancing is completely unnecessary when using dynamic balancing.
