First, can I lease with two different companies?
If not, can I get my own authority and work for companies like landstar, Mercer, and other companies at the same time.
I spoke with an o/o that said he pulled loads from different companies
Lease/ own authority

If you have your own authority you can haul for ever you like as long as you have the equipment and insurance requirements. I doubt you can be lease to two companies with the same truck unless they have an agreement that you pull their freight.

It's called a "trip lease". That was very popular back in the day. It's a major pain the ###. Also the regs prevent you from being leased on to more than one company nowadays.
If you have your own authority you can work with whoever you want. That's as long as they want to give you work... Not everybody wants the "new" guy.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
The added insurance cost of a new authority is high these days. 2 or 3 x as high for a few yrs. at least. That’s the biggest factor to consider. Do your research, the answer will be clear, with all the numbers on paper.
