Hi,
I'm about to apply for my first trucking job and I'm thinking about doing OTR, but the few things I've heard about the East it sounds like a bit of a nightmare for semis. Is it really all that bad compared to everywhere else? Or am I hyperventilating for nothing?
Best regards, John

It's not bad. Don't sweat it, cities are crowded crapholes that are all the same no matter where they are at. Just take your time and you will do just fine.

Well, it's done daily in the (upper east) Trucks in and out. The problem is the small roads and so much built over 100 yrs ago. That means tight spots to get into. Congestion. Not a lot of truck stops either. But, you can do it !

East coast is congestion, and no truck parking at truck stops after 1pm left. And what I hate is not getting paid to deal with stand still traffic. So to me it does not pay enough if you are mileage base pay.
And mostly mix between interstate, and highways, and back roads.
Key note all 12' 6" bridge markers are lies. Watch for 12' 4" markers. And if in doubt try creeping under at 1mph.
Check you routing with an Rand Atlas for low overpasses.Trucker61016, Lepton1, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this. -

Mostly short runs if you go with a company that stays in the eastern half of the USA.
If you want long runs, go with a coast to coast outfit.Trucker61016, Lepton1, born&raisedintheusa and 2 others Thank this.
