10 consecutive meets the requirement.

 

10 hours off-duty is required during every 24 hour period in Canada (deferral is allowed, but complicated to get right on paper).

Without complicating things further, this time can either be (1) 10 consecutive hours off-duty, or (2) a period of no less than 8 hours consecutive off-duty and another period up to 2 hours, separated into as many as 4 different 30 minute (minimum) blocks of time.

If you take any or all of those 30 minute blocks, it will extend your shift time by the amount of off-duty time you inserted throughout the day (took 1.5 hours off, shift clock now extends to 15.5 hours) to a maximum of 16 hour shift length.

In conclusion, the times are good (not sure about the distances, don't feel like doing the math, lol) but hot darn, you need to get yourself a straight edge and a sharper pen. You have a disconnected line at 12:15-12:30 and most DOT and MOT officers these days will pull out the magnifying glass to pick apart your book to find a ticket, since most companies run elogs.

A neat and tidy logbook and they'll likely just hand it back and say have a good day. A few extra minutes every day keeping the lines straight could save you 30-60 minutes at a scale.

You need 10 hours off for each 24 hour period. Can't be split into anything that isn't a 8 and 2 hour block (2 hours can be combination of up to 4x 30 minute blocks). If you split, then it extends your day clock by the amount of time taken off-duty within the 16-hour window.

That's the rules, this page is wrong.

 

Yeah, I'm not see what they are calling a violation. They seem to be suggesting you can't take 10 consecutive off, but you absolutely can. At least, under NSC Standard 9 those are the rules. Are Ontario-only (intraprovincial) rules different?
