I drive a 99' IH 9400 Midroof w/ 525hp N14, Super 10, 3.70 gears, and 22.5 low pro's. Every Aero aide has been stripped off over the years. Month to month MPG averages 6.5-7.1. I drive it because it simply fits me. I'm a large guy and it has plenty of room to move around along with plenty of storage space. It has power to spare on anything but the steepest grades when loaded close to max gross. If I could change one thing I'd swap to a 13spd.

I have a 97 freight shaker with a 3406e cat 470hp. I get 5.6 mpg (excludes deadheading, when do, it is 8.6 mpg at avg. 30,500 lbs empty), the engine has 950,000 miles on it. 13 speed with low pros. Dont know what the rear end is.
There is no best brand, there are soooo many factors invovled. I would only ###-u-me that the newer the engine, the better the mileage.truckinwva Thanks this. -
Older international w/350 and a 400 fuel pump. Cabover if you can stand a short wheelbase, 3.9 rears, 9-speed tranny, a "bus" (9700, 9800).
This combo gives me 9.7+ mpg fully loaded, running between 75-90 mph. Hilly country, 9.2-9.4 mpg.
Believe it or not, REALLY!
