Don't take the test in an automatic whatever you do, you are then stuck driving only automatic's if you change companies.
It could possibly be the ligaments in the back of the knee, your leg isn't used to doing this action and it is straining them some.
Walmart has their brand roll-on plastic bottle of Equate Maximum Strength Cool & Heat Pain Relieving Liquid. It has 16% Menthol in it. It is good for arthritis and other ache and pains. Has the most menthol in this brand for the price also and is great for hands, shoulders, back. And even for a chest cold.
Then the pain reliever, change seat positions, sit on a pillow if needed to raise you a little higher, knee brace, yoga.
My SUV, when I drive it for long distances, kills my left knee after awhile, and it is an automatic. Change what you can.

I used to get pain working the clutch heavily on a blind side back I had at a customer. This was a repeat customer. Doh!
Then went OTR. Automatic. Didn't work on taking care of myself. Developed pain in left leg from knee down when sleeping. It was bad. It was mostly lack of exercise.
Yesterday got the knee pain again. Kept maneuvering under a loader for a pneumatic tanker. Geesh! Too much on that clutch in a short time span. At least it's getting exercise again. Doh!gentleroger, dennisroc, NavigatorWife and 1 other person Thank this. -
try stretching before, when you get a job you wont be on the clutch for 5 straight hours like you do in CDL school
dennisroc, NavigatorWife and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
On top of all the great tips already mentioned, I would use a small pillow for the lower back support. I can't go without it. Everything seems to align better. It may help with the leg reach.
