Thank you for some pointers. I will keep that in mind. I tried to work with the trainer but he is one of those "i don't give a ####" type of personality where if you ask him to meet in the middle he will most likely say "F off" and do it his way. So I'm out in the streets stalling at traffic lights and he is getting mad at me like I'm suppose to do it right. When I ask him what is it that I'm doing wrong he would say "wtf you should know what you're doing" and "are you ##### listening to me?" in a very thick accent.

I don't mind going in any gears if I'm taught properly on how to execute it. I have never driven a truck and I have never driven stick shift ever in my life. I'm pretty much a blank canvas. I do what is taught to me and I follow it to the best of my ability. But the trainer isn't doing anyone favors by throwing anger tantrums in the passenger seat. I'm not sure how many of you actually love driving around with a drill sergeant yelling at you, but I for one actually prefer to be in a relax state to prevent any accident from happening. Plus I'm a paying customer so I'm not even sure if this is the norm, but they are making me go take the DMV test in 5 days and I'm not going to have a trainer ruin it for me because he doesn't want to teach correctly. I'm hoping I can get some info from experience drivers here and also watch some Youtube videos.

I had much rather work with a blank canvas. You don't have any bad habits to break already so to speak. The instructor is an idiot... ..go above his head get him run off he is not doing his job

100%. His job is to teach, not sit there and complain.

On that DMV test, that pre-trip and ally dock test will mess you up even more than your driving test. You have 3 tries, so manage them wisely.

When you are in 4th gear and just before it is going to rock the tractor back and forth, rev up the engine slightly then, together, let go the clutch and depress on the fuel pedal. I know the convention wisdom is to let go the clutch first but that only works on low gears. On 4th gear you always depress the fuel pedal a little and then let go the clutch. Let go the clutch slowly when it get to the top. It’s all about the clutch control.

Hey man, if I finished Swift driving school and get my CDL with the same exact instructions and crappy instructor like you have, I am sure you can do it too.

That is correct. I think you need to depress the fuel pedal a little harder or don’t let go the clutch too quickly. When the truck starts rocking, depress the clutch in and step on the break so you can reset. At least this way you won’t stall and have to start that engine again.

Surprisingly I memorize all my pre trip easily and perform the air brakes with ease. I'm also decent with all four of the backing skills. It's literally just the stalling at traffic light that is killing my confident right now.

That’s good news to hear about your exam preparation. Just remember, depress the fuel pedal before you release the clutch. So fuel first and then slowly let go clutch.

Not the other way around, aka, let go clutch and then depress the fuel pedal. That’s definitely going to rock the truck.

No offence, but that is not good advice. You should never ever have a foot on the throttle and on the clutch at the same time. One or the other. The engine makes so much torque down low that in the right conditions can easily twist apart input shafts and drivelines. Best case scenario you just wear the clutch out twice as fast.

This is a technique to pass the DMV exam, which is that you start at 4th gear. Remember in DMV test you must double clutch, you can’t shift in the intersection or making turns, you can’t skip gears, and you must be in gear at all times. So in order for students not to make these simple mistakes, students are taught a specific way to easily pass the test. Once test is passed and CDL acquired, then student will drive the conventional way. This is the way mega has been training students forever so it must have some merit.
