I find this to be some good advice. Megas or small companies, they're pretty much the same. I can never understand why so many drivers on here act like they've driven for every company, and they make their opinions based on what they hear as opposed to their own experience. Nonetheless he's got a smorgasbord to choose from

How many people are going to make big money their first year? Cpm doesnt matter. It's about the miles one is will to run. At this point getting experience is most important. The big bucks will come

It is good you never had a stick in your life. That means there is no bad habits to break.

In a big rig you have almost 2000 feet pounds of torque and big horse involved in it. Takes a transmission able to lift 40 ton up around a 25 to 30% incline. Thats where you come in, syncronizing gears. Thats all it really is. You get the engine to a certain point, you shift up. IF you are going upgrade your engine will lug down and at some point you must shift down. Always the same RPMs involved Eventually she will have enough reduction to over come the mountain going up.

Once over the top though getting down is a whole problem in reverse this time. Your Jacobs is applying engine braking against the 40 ton weight if your gear selection is correct you will ride that jacobs all the way down to the bottom. When you see the bottom and it's straight, you can go ahead and let her go. One exception, Fancy Gap. The NC scales at the bottom. which is really the worst place to put a scale.

Did you even read my post? Just because you dont make as much as someone with more expierecne doesnt mean you should settle on a company that pays you ####. I started out at 47 cpm and did around 5-600 miles a day. I very rarely sat for more than a day.

oh ok. Have you ever thought of saving some money up for cdl school then getting a job? You dont really want to be on the hook for that money if you decide you dont like it

There is more than just cpm that matters are you hauling in the area you getting time off when asked benefits paid to sit how about the miles that you want how hands on are the loads how often are you sitting for half a day waiting for a new load paid to dead head to get a load and the list goes on

Have to factor everything in; pay & benefits. Sometimes high cpm doesn't equate to larger paychecks.
For example; with 20 years experience I took a job that paid .36 cpm and I took home between $1000 - $1200 on average because of excellent accessorial pays. Stop pay plus detention pay after one hour. Other pays, but that depends on the company you work for.
