There is a govt program that pays to retrain ppl into careers with high demand. In my state, it works through the unemployment office. Go tour the trucking schools in your area. They will be able to tell you where to go for this grant program. It's based somewhat on income in my state. School is better than going to school with a trucking company because you're not signing a contract to work for them for x months no matter how awful they are. If you get school outside the company, they dont have you in a vice lock if you're unhappy with them, or the type of trucking.
Most megas are pretty much the same, but I know I am really happy at covenant. Great benefits, awesome miles, love my truck, and my team is the greatest ever. They pay tuition reimbursement too.

I read your post....put your battle armor down.....a little tense aren't we? You started out making 47 cents per mile. Well done, it's not always feasible. You are very fortunate, you got the miles to go with 47 cents per mile. I've worked at places that pay north of 55 cents per mile, but it was a struggle to get more than 2000 miles. So, due to that company being heavily reliant on spot market freight, it was all for not. I made decent money here and there, but I would rather the.consistent miles, and the reality is, not every company can deliver that

    Good points.
UPS Truckload pays .72 cpm but doubt if the miles are there. Don't know that for a fact, but why do they constantly advertise for truckload drivers?
Here's the ad they're running all over the USA and have been for a couple of years. This particular ad doesn't show the cpm, but others do.
Click here -> Apply On Company Site
This paragraph is for a UPS team operation:
"UPS Freight Truckload is hiring individuals to work as Full-time Dedicated Dry Van Team Drivers. This position involves the driving of a tractor-trailer for the over-the-road delivery of freight to two or more locations. Dedicated drivers are primarily assigned to run freight for one customer, and may be assigned to an operation based at a specific customer location. These drivers are normally on the road from one or two days at a time. The term “dedicated” refers to the customer, not a particular lane or destination."

Do you do LTL? The only local gig I ever did was delivering drinks for 7up/Snapple. Not bad money, but i definitely prefer the road

@Chinatown not trying to hijack a thread but I know you are from Tn and I would love to be able to maybe dm you but im a newbie on here so i can not.
I too am in a similar position and will be ready to go to school to get my cdl end of october/beginning of nov and am debating paying for school or a carrier that schools/will pay. All things considered I think flatbed or tanker appeals to me the most right now. Being in east tn it seems my schooling options are limited to a carrier or tn truck driving school which they are just wanting to push me to sign up with a company that will pay them for me. Go figure since the company route the school charges like 5500 but if you pay upfront its 4k. Any advice? Any reviews on TLD Logistics and there schooling or the company afterwards? I do not mind going the company route if its a place I can make money and stand.. I know being green i will have to pay my dues. Have also considered TMC but going to iowa to train for several weeks is not that appealing.

@Packwillatack Haven't heard any bad reviews on TLD Logistics.
    R. E. West Transportation has free cdl school and no contract to sign. Flatbeds & dry vans. Training is in Ashland City, TN
