When you guys install a bird perch and antenna, do you route your coax under the dash and trim, or just out through the door jam?

Because I am semi-retired and only fill in for guys on vacation, sick etc, I cant really do permanent installations, so I use LMR240 Ultraflex coax thru the door jamb. The guys who do it the correct way will cringe when they see this post, but I do it that way out of necessity. If I feel the cable is looking bad or suspect hidden problems, I cut off the end and put a new connector on. Be sure to get the Ultraflex if you use this method. Again, this is NOT the correct way, but it's what I do

That way works, just a little harder on the antenna coax.

I'd keep an eye on the SWR meter when transmitting, which will immediately show high readings if/when the coax becomes worn to the point of continuity reduction and/or shorting to ground sheath.

    Timin770 Thanks this.

Oh yeah definitely harder. No debate about that. If I had any other way I'd do it in a heartbeat. Given my situation, I figure what the heck I'll buy new coax every couple years

Timm..Shuttin the door on it once can goober up the coax....

People do run it out the window, door jamb but to me that is an absolute last last last resort....
In my 19 cascadia i took some time to find an internal routeing (with some internet help on the prev model cascadia)to keep it as much as possible away from the door jamb and electrical..

I hate that look i see alot of guys runnin out the window n such...
Birt perch....Wouldnt use one.....To much strain on that one bolt when the wind starts pushin back on that antenna, could strip out bolt hole..
