Not a lot of engine braking, unless you jake in reverse. I would for sure have the brakelights deactivated and use the brake if it is steep.
When we spin out and start sliding backwards, you have zero control while sliding, we try to just keep the drives sliding long enough to get in high reverse and hope that works. lolOxbow, FlaSwampRat, truckdriver31 and 1 other person Thank this. -

So how long is this hill? Keeping a truck and trailer in a straight line in reverse can be difficult enough, but down hill, backward with some speed I don't see happening very easily. One little bounce will send the rear tandems jumping and will probably jack knife the trailer, which will whip you around and over in the tractor. Effects may have to lock the trailer in place so it can't swivel on the king pin and skid plate.

Pretty interesting question. And if this is really legit for an actual movie or production I applaud some one actually asking truckers about the stunt. I hate it when there’s an 18 in an action scene and they get it all wrong. Ruins the entire movie for me
I agree with most everyone else. Either a switch for the brake lights. Or just coast and shift into revers after coasting to an almost complete stopx1Heavy Thanks this. -
If the hill is very steep, brakes will still be needed to keep it from overspeeding, the engine.
An empty tanker, I would just go down in nuetral with the brakes.tscottme Thanks this. -
