Hey all, Tom from NJ. I'm a married man and soon to be father. Currently work as a public school employee but have had a dream of trucking my whole life. Coming up on 40 and I'm considering making the jump. Have had my CDL for awhile and have towing and school bus experience, but no TT. Weighing options as to which way to go and what will be best. This forum is great and I hope to learn a lot.

Choose your next words carefully :rolleyes:. I always say this when it comes to trucking especially with a wife & young children. A trucking career may fit your personality but does it fit your family's. It can consume so much of your time & nothing leftover for your family. Congratulations on becoming a father. Choose your career carefully :D:D

Thanks for the advice. I'm not looking to go OTR, would like to stay local and be an owner operator at some point and run local. It's a position that's out there, I just have to find the right company.

Also thanks for the well wishes. We're excited for sure!

Any companies that take owner/operators with no experience that you can recommend?

I don't know of any. I saw something the other day that hired 0/0's with 6 mos. exp. but didn't write it down.
Most want minimum of 1 year.
www.OOIDA.com is a business website for owner-operators. Your questions can be answered on there.
