Why are the weigh scales on the trans canada highway closed 99% of the time. I have only seen 5 open and 1 with lights on in the last year.

Cutbacks in provincial funding.my buddy is a mit officer here in Manitoba, they cut back the mobile trucks to a minimum, and cut hours at the scales here. Cutbacks.

    That's OK with me. :)

I know a bunch in Ontario that are open most days and many that are rarely used other than during the blitz.

Never could figure how they come up with the staff to handle to increase during the blitzes.

North Dakota does the same thing. Set up mobiles outside the sugarbeet plants.

Harvest time is a bad time for DOT in Idaho as well... All the little jump scales will randomly be open.

Yet the one guy who sits at the intersection of the 227 and 6 is still always there, lol.

Not that it matters, most people running illegally can so very easily skirt around the scales in the prairies that it wouldn't matter how many mobile units were out, they'd never catch enough of them to make a difference.

And with elogs coming in, they're probably going to start coming up with pathetic violations because they can't just spend 5 minutes with 14 log sheets of one driver and come out with the full quota for a day, haha.
