Computer controls the solenoid oil pressure does the actual work

Ok so @Nostalgic if a feller were smart enough he could write a custom tune to control the iva much like a vvt solenoid. Itd basically work like Ford did with the new boss 302 and the "ghost" cam. The iva would open the intake valve sooner and hold it open longer to get a longer duration and smaller lobe separation angle.

Idk if it's ever been done but I'm sure it's possible with the right computer and the know how to do it.

Which is basically how vvts work. Computer controls the flow of oil in and out of a cam phaser which changes the position of the sprocket on the camshaft instead of the good old fashioned fixed attachment

Was raised in Vancouver right across the bridge from the airport. I remember walking across the 205 bridge the day before it opened to traffic.
If your hopes are in Albuquerque for a flatbed load your going to be disappointed.

Now a B model CAT timing advance does the same exact thing to control injection timing but without the computer. Fly weights springs etc......which in my opinion is an engineering marvel.

BTW hit the west bound peak of Sandstone at 50 mph in 8th gear (1 under direct
) other night at 84 gross. Not too shabby fer a B model a 15 over and 3.36 rears turning tall rubber

I could be completely wrong here but I want to say that the Low NOx tune on the Acert was done to shorten that overlap period. Less oxygen, less NOx. The pre-low NOx tune had a longer overlap to "dillute" the particulates. The solution to pollution is dillution! :D
