Never heard of AAOO so I looked them up. Now I'm not knocking them they offer services people look for but it seems like they're everything people here hate about OOIDA. They're all about business and nothing about politics at all,on their website. They don't have a PAC and no paid lobbyist in Washington. What do they stand for politically? That to me is the whole point of an association, politics.

I would like to add in another point for OOIDA. New to the membership (literally just joined this month) and the information they have been able to provide me with is AMAZING! I have been on this same topic back and forth with my big boss for a month almost. Joined OOIDA and asked them what I thought was right and they got me the confirmation I needed in addition to providing me with the links that I needed. Some of the links I had already found but others gave a bit more detail. I've emailed them several times and their response times are QUICK. Well worth the money spent in less than a full week of using their services.

Maybe you should start a Company Driver Association then.

I know that is being snarky but again the myth that OOIDA is owner operator only... How many times does it have to be said OOIDA represents company drivers too?

If you're a truck driver, you offer services that can be found at many other places, some less expensive than what you charge for those services. I would also have to assume that your goal as a truck driver is to make as much money as possible, period. I have no doubt that it would be beneficial for your clients to shop around before booking your services, just as any smart shopper should do.

We live in a capitalistic society where people offer services for a fee, and potential customers are free to either accept your services or not. But we are all here to make a living and that includes people who publish magazines and run trade organizations such as OOIDA.

The issues OOIDA are going after in Washington is why I can no longer support them. I didn’t just go on an Internet forum and complain about it neither, I contacted the president and voiced my concerns. He did reply to me, but when I replied to him with good sound reasoning that was the end of the conversation. One of the issues I brought up was one you pointed out, the ability to hold shippers and receivers accountable now, no more reply’s and I really wanted to try and understand how they were choosing the arguments that thy are.

I think they have used up some of the clout they were gaining in Washington by some of their arguments and actions on the ELD issues.I had been a vocal supporter of them for a long time with my friends and other drivers because I did believe they were looking out for us, now I really can’t tell who they’re looking out for. I know they have done good in the past, but some of their arguments lately have sounded like trucker counter talk in the restaurants, I expect better from an industry trade organization that wishes for me to support their Washington lobbyists.
