I am not going to buy a ticket if no collision with an iceberg . It's worthless. I better go to Williams, AZ and buy a ticket for Grand Canyon train. Between Williams and Grand Canyon Jesse James kind of guys on horses attack the train. Shootings, throwing ropes, some lady cries,.. it's more interesting and attractive.

I believe the UP Steam program was able to preserve and convert to machine language all the files needed to replicate pretty much anything on it. Fasteners in particular. Much of the hand skills are lost to time when that generations of highly expert engine maintainers died off. But some of the art has been passed down and preserved.
The Union Pacific Website via the Steam Program has the schedule and position for a given current year when the engines are out on tours.
Steam from boiling water at that necessary volume to overcome 6000 ton to modern 11000 ton has been done by another engine called the Challenger. I don't think they will run 3985 unless its a special move this year. We have caught that engine a couple of times in Arkansas along with 844. The eastern states also have steam programs, Norfolk and western has the 611 for instance, a demonstration of superpower, a term that means raising steam beyond normal expansion and thermal pressure to a point that you can do this kind of work upgrade with almost 3000 ton deadweight....
This pull was more difficult than most because I believe the fireman has to replace the volume of the boiler's entire steam output several times. Halfway up the issue is still in doubt when you hear the rods themselves make noises... These were roller bearing rods very precision balanced. Not supposed to make that kind of noise.

While we love these steam engines, I sure hope the climate activists don’t bother them.
The one video of 3985 blacking the sky will have those kids jumping up and down with signs if they saw those videos right now.
Steam engines are a mechanical work of art.x1Heavy Thanks this.
