There's no reason I should be able to have a 3-day weekend while the guys on the bottom of the board are starving. That would be SILLY.

Company opened up a health clinic at my barn recently. It's a pilot program they're trying out at two locations, and not affiliated with the company other than location. They offer health screenings, weight loss management, urgent care for when you get the sniffles, and do DOT physicals. There's more too, but you get the idea. It seems like a pretty good deal, and is convenient for when you can't get to your primary care doctor.

I figure I'll try it out and see what's up. You have to do an initial health screening to use their services so I made an appt even though I had just done a yearly workup with my doctor. The nurse practitioner was a nice, friendly lady and after a little small talk she gets things started by taking my BP. then I hear her say "Uh, oh." She tells me my BP is ridiculously high, like two heartbeats away from a stroke. I dont believe her. I check it 2-3 times a week and it's always well within normal range. She check it again a few minutes later, still high.

Now I'm freaked out. I have a recert coming up, so I need to get a handle on this ASAP. I call my doctor on the way home and beg him for an appt right away. He's not happy with me, but he knows I'm a driver and tells me to come on in. I get there, go back with the nurse, and she checks my BP. 128/70. What the...? Wait ten minutes and check it again. Still good. The doctor gives me a lollipop and sends me on my way.

I start asking around, and find a couple other drivers that had the same problem. One guy got slapped with a 3 mo. med card and he's never had a problem before, ever. I dont know what the deal is, but I'm done with the place. I cancelled my follow up appt and will be avoiding it like the plague.

Im still around lurking every few months. Was not good for me too talk work off duty. Almost 30 years on the interwebs. This is the last forum post on. Just easier to lurk around these days everyone is a expert and so many rules to follow. Im happy with my employer and what i do ( roll off dumpster ) get to a certain age / experience and just go with the flow or know when to speak up and crap actually gets done / resolved. Verbal judo also helps. Its never a gravy train each day. Yins folks are great.

My RN wife recently told me that the Blood pressure guidelines were lowered.

New high blood pressure guidelines: Think your blood pressure is fine? Think again… - Harvard Health Blog

So, if you have a DR. who knows what's up. You're probably good to go. But If you get a newbie? Who believes in all the new medicines are GOD gift?

You might as well buy a plot now and wait to die.

i took the night off. my weekend plans were slightly foiled by my daughters extracurricular activities. planned on leaving today, but we will leave early tomorrow, instead. not a total loss. we got to enjoy a friday night together, which is rare on this linehaul schedule. usually we get a quick dinner, then it’s time for dad to get back to makin bacon.

i got caught up on all the spellbowl and cheer drama early this weekend.
