Yeah, this is something I've thought about often. Particularly if you're in a "right to work state" which I always think of as "you have the right to get fired for no good reason and w/ no warning at all!"
Is this common?

I just recently submitted an app. Told them no as I'm still working.
They want to see my last year taxes for verification.buddyd157 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
So essentially they're trying to find out what you were being paid so they can eliminate any kind of pay negotiation.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I don't think a two week notice is the way to go with big companies and OTR. If you were local or dedicated it might be different.
I cleaned out the truck this morning, sent a message that I was resigning effective immediately, left their property locked in truck at their secure terminal (my home terminal) after delivering load and while not under dispatch, took picture of message.
They called me and I'm going in next week to see they can find me a different gig (I was getting too much short haul and just couldn't justify being exploited once I got my 1 year in).
I also swept out the truck and did a light cleaning in case they need to put a driver in it.D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and MYSTYKRACER Thank this. -
not necessarily, (although that is ALWAYS a possibility)
it is more for employment verification purposes.
if the starting pay is (say) 60¢ per mile for x number of years experience, then there really isn't any negotiations.
what i DO NOT like, is when you HAVE x number of years, and they say, "oh no, you MUST start at OUR starting pay....not jump up to top tier as soon as you walk in the door"
(i have had that happen to me) and i walked out.
then that's when you tell them to go fly a kite....and walk out.
experience, good driving record, good employment record, should all be considered for pay, not "everyone starts at x no matter how much experience you have"
that's when you know not to apply there. as it's "usually" the mega companies that downplay one's time and experiences. screw themFerrissWheel, Rideandrepair and MYSTYKRACER Thank this. -
My home every night dedicated run was coming to an end. Sent a few apps out over the weekend. Next tuesday "wanna haul oversize." "Maybe". And we are where we are.
buddyd157 Thanks this. -
Or arrange a new orientation on the way to said yard by cell. I did that once. Took about 200 miles of negotiations. But got it done. Following monday I was rolling by wed with new outfit. My previous company was like WTF.
(I hired on to haul cream in what they call expensive (70K) loads in tanker, but they stick me in a stupid box van. UGH. wasting my time beating around the Carolinas. enough of that... as some of you say I bounce.)rachi and FerrissWheel Thank this. -
At will state to work- they can get rid of you anytime & don't have to give a reason. Couple time I was gonna put in 2 weeks notice - they told me to get my stuff & leave same as o.p. they get employment verification & makes them mad.

One time my brother hired on same place as me. He decided to quit - they told me to leave too. Lolokiedokie Thanks this.
