What's the advantage to truck-trailer vs. tractor-trailer?
2) i noticed that truck-trailer seems more common in europe and asia. Why?
Do straight trucks pull trailers?

This is pretty cool I didn't know Mr.Jamieson shot this video. This is from 2013, I don't know if that refuse packer is still in service with the City of Rocky River or not, that's a generation 1 probably 1992 Volvo Leach 2RII 31 Yard unit, I know Rocky River update there refuse packer fleet 2-3 years ago and some new trucks, but I think that this is a custom set up that the city had Dinkmar make for them, because this refuse packer leaf vac combo is not very popular or seen far and wide and I looked on Dinkmar's web site and that set up isn't really advertised. I think it's a custom job, Rocky River doesn't really dual purpose there refuse trucks, they pretty much use them for refuse and a couple for leaf collection and that's about they don't plow snow with them, they never did, and it makes sense those trucks are expensive and they try to get 20 or so odd years out of them, although the city I think by now has pretty much retired most of there 1990s era equipment.
The truck pulls the leaf vac trailer around, they can pack a good amount of leafs in there. I think they have or had 2 of the Lech Alpha single axle 20 yard trucks doing leafs and then the one vac truck and then the big 31 yarder doing leafs as well.
The city I live in now next door to Rocky River they have the old Ford L9000 and a newer International doing leaves and get a wet fall and it takes the city a long long time to get the leaves. The one truck does one side of town and the other does the other side of town, it's a slow go, I bag my leaves and throw them out in the trash.

What other reasons? -
There are a couple multi state straight truck operations Sirna and Son Produce and Hillcrest Foods and JFC also Eby Brown are good examples of long range straight truck outfits.
Lipare Foods and JFS Curtze is another.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
the advantages of truck-trailer, vs tractor-trailer, is manuvrability. in some states you are able to haul more with the 5 axles without getting heaver plates.
I drove one most days, up until about 6 weeks ago when the last good truck w/manual tranny left the yard. now left with auto-shifts and I told dispatch 'not happening'. now just use a straight truck or a semi.FlaSwampRat and Mike2633 Thank this. -
our studio trucks for grip package are 40 feet long straight truck with 20 foot trailer behind it.

That’s a first. I’ve never seen a rear loading trash truck pulling a trailer before.

Another advantage to the west coast style truck and trailer is that, once you get used to how they back, you can back them into places you'd never get a semi.
Also, if you're delivering fuel to a remote offroad area with bad access, you can unhook the trailer, take the truck in and unload, come back out, pump the trailer into the truck and repeat.
