the original ceramic tappets would break into pieces getting into the oil and trashing the motors internals, be it the cam, valve guides etc. a lot of stories of guys having to drop new motors in because of the almost impossible task of fishing out all the little pieces from every galley.

since the ceramic, the tappets have been upgraded to steel tappets. The steel tappets have still proved to be problematic in some cases. So many guys change em out preventively. Not wishing this upon you, just passing the info along. Congrats on the nice truck. And if you want to, you can join Rawze.com as well. I know the CM2250 engine can be problematic, but it appears (after almost ENDLESS research) that most of the issues come from either failure to maintain the DPF/SCR system, or failure to properly pre-trip/inspect the engine on a regular basis (along with, of course, proper regular maintenance)

I didn't dyno the truck due to not being able to find a decent, trustworthy dyno shop anywhere close. And no one yet has been able to see evidence of excessive blow by (heck, I haven't evidence of ANY blowby!)

The truck has been checked over by three mechanics thus far, with another full mechanical inspection coming on Monday with my local (VERY trusted) shop of mad mechanical geniuses.

I drove it bobtail from Toledo, OH to Meadville, PA. Solid mix of local streets and surface highway (US 20) and interstate (I-480, I-90, I-79) with zero issues.

This truck feels solid and reliable. It idles steady, and accelerates nice and smooth with no hitches or hiccups. The engine sounds great throughout the entire RPM range, and none of the gauges are moving out of normal operating range. Oil pressure and temperature, ammeter, transmission temp, water temp, and axle temps are all solid.

Any used truck is a gamble, this is a fact. And there is no "diamond in the rough" in used trucks. But short of the dyno, I've done every bit of inspecting, checking, rechecking, and praying one man can do.

The only test I didn't perform was an oil sample. Because the dealer went ahead and changed the oil before I even saw the truck. So that will be done after 3,000 miles (or a week to a week and a half of my normal running). And then every 15,000 to 20,000 miles after that.

My current oil change interval target is 18,500 miles. Dependent, of course, on what the oil samples say about the motor internals. I'd rather spend my money on a solid maintenance program than on buying another truck every three to five years.

I do mine every 20K. Same engine, but mines 2012 / 450.

I do all the filters as well.

Change your DEF filter now. That only needs done like every 250K.

Don't mess with the settings, let it do it's little regens it does all the time, and you'll be ok.

654K on mine, and counting. Last oil sample was all green.

I use Mobile 15/40 mineral, and Fleetguard.

This I second. There has been changes over the years. They pay on time everytime as long as you do the required paperwork. They used to file and pay ifta too. Not sure if they still do. You actually get something for your percentage you give them.

I Suggest for Engine Longevity using Schaeffer Oil its Amazing even better than mobil 1,ive seen the tests done on youtube. Racers wont use it to break in an engine cause the engine wont ever break in. Schaeffer Oil | Synthetic Motor Oils, Engine Oils, Diesel Fuel Additives, Industrial Lubricants Manufacturer
