    They let their personal issues over ride business sense. I'll hire my friend/relative with much less experience than this joker off the street that has references,ect.

    Its common in a lot of industries. The minute you voice your intention to quit, you become a liability. If you are in a position with a lot of responsibility, access to sensitive information, etc, but you havent established a great degree of trust, they dont want a notice.

    I had a employer tell me when I worked IT and was given administrative priviledges to their IT systems, they dont want to know. The minute they know, my admin priviledges would be pulled and I wouldn't be able to work anyway.

    I usually leave a note “Please contact my current employer for reference only after job is offered” Most are fairly understanding.
