@shogun your a LS guy forsure. What your thoughts? I have a 71 350 olds with 7a head for my 86 cutlass, but thought driving my 05 silverado till it fell apart and part it into the cutlass would be cool too. Have every plan of building it for fun, and taking family vacations in it. Not a strip car, but cruiser and reliable? I plan on doing a cross country family cruise. But have a hard time not putting a olds motor in a olds, that came with a olds. But would be pretty cool to recycle parts from a truck I drove since new. I'm open to what you folks think.

Well you know that lm7 would be stock with a lot more power and streetability right off the bat. I’d run it with a small cam (210-220 duration range), headers, maybe mill those heads a little. Pair it up with a built 4l60 and 3000 stall (tight like a Circle D for $400) or even a T56 and get 20+mpg cruisin on the highway with a decent gear, say 3.42-3.55.
Slap some slicks on it and run high 11s, put some spray on it and dip in the 10’s. Don’t get me wrong I like the simplicity of a small block, but those lm7 can go 250k with little maintenance.1951 ford, Zeviander, PoleCrusher and 11 others Thank this. -

Kinda my thought, the lm7 has had every oil change by me only. The 71 350 olds I bought or pieced from a 64k delta 88 just for her. Hard choice. Everyone does the swap, but I really like keeping it olds in olds. But since I'm in the rust belt, fixing the Silverado is a losing battle and would be cool to transplant it. At that point of recycling would be interesting story.1951 ford, Zeviander, PoleCrusher and 9 others Thank this. -
Fixing supper with my youngest daughter is a good way to spend a Sunday evening

@shogun your right, anyway you look at it. And I could keep 2 vehicles together in away. It's not sensible to fix the rusty truck, but the engine and trans will fit fine in the car that's not rusty and will be here for a long time. Just sad to think about parting the old truck out. They get rusty up here. It's like shooting your dog.

If that motor has good compression, I’d just stick a new high pressure pump like the Melling 10296, some ls7 lifters, upgrade to the trunion roller bearings on the rockers and your golden. Unless your going full numbers matching restoration, I’d drop that lm7 in there and not look back.1951 ford, Zeviander, PoleCrusher and 12 others Thank this.

Been busy today for an old man. Full service on Old Blue including brake adjustment, check tranny, rears etc.
First oil change on the new build; a bit more junk in the oil than I was expecting, non-metallic though. Sent a sample in and can only imagine it will show higher numbers, but hopefully not fuel or coolant. Used 1 gallon in 10000 miles. Normal for a new engine? Actually used the oil in the first 6k, not much after that. Must be breaking in.
I think I need to replace the automatic slack adjusters on the lowboy as they don't seem to adjust consistently with each other any more.
Treating myself to a taste of Scotland tonight!
Happy Sunday gentlemen! -
