1) Yes, i can concuur with the 70mph to 65mph downgrade; i was not too happy about this believe me. This is the first i'm hearing about 62 and it does not suprise me.
The funny thing is we have to rent subs on an on-going basis and these usually run 70-71.
2) About the 401, i know something got downgraded but i was always part-time until recently so i can't comment fully. Also, i never paid much attention to 401ks, roths etc anyways.
3) they are instituting a MPG awards/rewards program. Also, they want idle down to no more than 6%, which i could care less about since i don't really idle at all.
4) Driver moral has taken a nose-dive here as well, but that has more to do with other things and not nessesarily because GW took over.
On the plus side, i like their paint jobs.

I was jokingly suggesting he get married and have a few kids... just for the deductability. I would never suggest anybody fake a W-9.
Next thought... if you always end up paying more taxes instead of getting a refund, you can always reduce your dependants on your W-9, specify ZERO, or check the box "married, but deduct at the higher single rate". -
i was thinking more in terms of "moving" to another state---that doesn't have state income tax; I.e., florida, tennessee etc.
Things along that line. -
Hi Powell
The 62 MPH may not apply to your division. I think it might be the shipper who requested that our trucks be turned down. I always get different answers when asking about the lower speed limit. The trucks seem to be working a bit harder on the hills because the rpm's are lower when starting the climb. Please don't yell at me when I'm holding you up. I'll be doing the best I can.
They have also started a new MPH program at our division. The idle time will probably always be over what they consider acceptable because we lay over in the southwest desert. My rest and safety is worth more than some dumb "MPH club" award or compensation. Maybe trying to sleep during the day in Yuma with the windows up isnt all that bad (sarcasm).

Ok, this last week not too shabby:
The $1600+ was good, but it was achieved thru moderate to severe health cost; This was strictly 3rd shift linehaul stuff and i probably did not get adequate rest.
2)RE: the idling contest:
For us, it is not that hot yet so we can easily achieve the targeted goals. But i agree, for you guys you need to be comfortable;
For example, yesterday i did not idle because it is not that hot right now in ohio. The problem is that i did not have my usual freightklunker---i had an international. i #### nearly suffocated-----because freightklunkers have crappy insulation, i am used to just parking with my windows and vents closed. Well, internationals have decent insulation(apparently, as i found out) and after about 3 hours i woke up and i had difficulty breathing until i opened both windows and all vents.
i have new found appreciation for internationals---they blow away freightklunker hands down. Better quality, excellent tracking(no wandering), better ride, just better overall.
i'm basically running like a wild-butt impala with this company; An impala is, i think, a deer and you know how they run.
Or picture (and i'm getting decriptive like this only to illustrate how i'm running with this company) a 69 impala with a 454 big-block, TH-400 trans and say 3.08 gears----that sucker will run.Last edited: Jun 6, 2009

Great Wide has different divisions, good pay on the Tyson dedicated divison, out 10 to 14 days, I am doing better here than the company i was leased to. they supposedly had frieght that paid anywhere from $1.50/mile to $4.00 per mile,it just never made it to my settlement check! Strange how you can make more at $0.97 per mile plus fuel surcharge. Yes they have faults but not everybody can please everybody.

OK, chugging right along:
This was teams(unfortunately) and we only ran 3 days.
i actually slept ok, but still not normally---as if in my own bed at home. i would say the health strain was mild to moderate.
P'up times were generally 6-7 am
And drops were generally 2,3, 4 pm. -
Thanks but no thanks, run for expenses and wear out your truck. Ever really calculate what the costs r and possibly saving for the future? That is company driver pay what i see on the settlement sheet. Money, not miles is the answer to profitability!

I am an o/o for greatwide( cheetah). So far with the company being moved around, everything still seems ok, just wish they would change the way payoffs are done. Must have bills in by no later than tues. noon and your paid by fri. This stinks when you deliver wed. on a real good load and have to wait a week and a half to get paid.
