I've actually been taking that drug a long time for a different problem, but I think it also helped me to quit smoking. They use it for that, too. My cravings and withdrawal symptoms didn't seem quite as intense as I remembered them being from times that I had previously tried to quit.

Another thing that kept my resolve to quit very strong was a learning that a good man who I really admired had passed away due to emphysema. I write in my spare time and so did he and we got to know each other through sharing our stories. I found myself wanting to be like him. He had written two books and many poems and short stories. He was one of us, too- just a working joe who could string some words together. I didn't know that he had emphysema until after his death. I never got to meet him in person. He could have written a lot of great stories and watched his grandchildren grow up if he hadn't been a smoker.

That Rocks & is an insanely tough thing to do. Have friends who would have opted to start smoking again just to stay even or slightly above on the weight. So for you to quit the nicotine & lose the weight is amazing.

Will keep reading this thread as I have set a quit date for the smoking as well. Have quit in the past for a couple weeks on end & always have returned. Grrrr!

Bravo, well done!! I quit 4 months ago, cold turkey after smoking for 42 years, however I waited to long. You quit at a good age, and should recover 100%.
I'm now working on the weight, and think it was easier to quit smoking! You give me faith,
    Best to you..

Congratulations to those who have done it. Good luck to those who are going to.

I've never smoked, so I don't personaly know how difficult it is, but I've known enough ex-smokers to believe that it is very hard.

Way to go dude, i love hearing inspiring testimonies!

Bout 2 weeks ago, I decided to radically change the way I eat. I didn't want to do some fad diet or cut out all carbs or eat some kind of wierd herb or berry or supplement. To each their own, though.

I just decided to eat smaller portions. That simple. Also, i cut out all carbonated drinks except the occasional Ultra at home. Then, I made a rule that I can have 1 sweet a week. That was a little hard, but easy to do once I got used to it. I can have 3 coffees a day (hey, I was drinking like 6-8 lol). And I stopped putting sugar in the coffee, just milk/cream. Sucked at first, but heck now I wouldn't want sugar in my coffee, would taste too sweet.

The challenge is at big dinners with family etc. You just have to FORCE yourself to eat smaller portions.

Oh, and I've lost 8 pounds since 7/10/09. My goal is 60 by New Years.
