That's right. Only RTOO has overdrive in both the main and the auxiliary. And yeah, top
gear was in the low 60's somewhere. (it's on Eaton's website, too fried to go find it.)

While the two 2 gears in the RTLO 13/18 are OD ratios, only the main has overdrive, the aux is underdrive/direct.

The true double overs actually had 3 OD ratios.

It was called turning a tranny around back in the day. It gave you an overdrive with an originally direct transmission (which were once the most common) but sped up the whole tranny, and reverse was very tall in them. The factory RTO overdrives used the same idea, but put in a lower reverse. All modern overdrive trannys are this way, we just don't notice because the shift tower flips the far gate so the stick isn't against the dash in the big hole. That was originally labeled as RTX. And because they're already "turned around," there's no quick way to lower the final drive ratio of the new trannys.

I don't remember exactly how one went about turning one around, but I think the front two gear sets were swapped, but don't hold me to that.

You know, you guys could have been Oxbow, Bullbow, and Rambow, right?

Tried to take my nephew camping, but his mom said no. Guess she’s still mad about me taking him to the gun range.

    Cool! Glad y’all had fun....

When I was a boy on the farm I caught quite a few varmints and peeled the bark off of them. 1st time we had duck for dinner was kinda odd..... peeling the bark off a duck that is, feathers and all.

I was milling around the flea market on Sunday and ran across an old hand plane. I’ve been lookin for an old one like my Papaw used to use when I was a youngin. Soon as I laid eyes on this one it jarred that memory right into my head.

Now I don’t know my dates and years on these. Just know this looked like Papaws, best I could remember. No power in his woodshop. Every piece was cut, planed, drilled, and joined by hand. When the sun went down, time for supper.

Anyway, I couldn’t read much except “No 5” thru all the rust. I asked the fella how old it was and he said “Probably not as old as me, but maybe older than you.”
Well, good enough I reckon. $5 later I’m headed home with this old rusty thing.

I knocked enough rust off to read 3 patent dates. A couple in 02 and one in 10.

Well shoot. Ain’t near as old as I was hoping. Not even 10 years old. Musta been sitting out in the weather. Oh well, still worth 5 bucks if the blade will hold an edge. I’ve been needing a jack plane anyway to flatten bench tops and stuff after glue up, when it’s too wide to fit thru the power planer.

I threw the parts in some vinegar to soak for the night and then asked the google about those patent dates.

Well..... turns out those dates are a hundred years earlier than I thought. Apparently, this is a Stanley Bailey No 5, type 11, which was made between 1910 and 1918. There’s whole articles and charts on these to determine years and such. Who knew? Apparently not the fella that sold it to me.

Anyway, after a 12 hour bath and some scrubbing, I threw the blade on a new stone and gave her a nice edge. I guess she don’t look too bad for her age. Top of the rear handle is broken off, but I ain’t worried. It don’t affect use.

Y’all reckon it kinda gives a project a little bit of soul when hundred-year old USA made tools are used in the build? Or am I crazy?

Oh yeah, I built a industrial-style media console (fancy name for a tv stand) for the living room. Inch-and-a-half angle iron, 16 gauge sheet metal, with a recessed solid oak top and dark walnut stain with shellac finish. Clear coat on all the steel.

I bought some bullet hinges for the doors, but I made everything else, including the rudimentary carriage bolt handles and latches.

She says I gotta make some night stands next. As @stwik says, “Sheesh”.
