My husband got a prehire with Roehl and was originally told he could be in orientation on June 29, 2009. He was told a few days later that they could not get him into orientation until July, 13. This was already a big setback for us as he has been out of work since May 15. So we are sitting here getting everything packed up and ready for him to go Sunday and get a call today that now they can't get him in until the 27th!! He was really looking forward to working for Roehl but is now starting to second guess his choice b/c, for one, we cannot afford to wait another 2 weeks with no paycheck, and, number 2, we are worried that this is how things will be once he gets hired on (one thing said, another thing done). Has anyone else out there had any trouble like this with Roehl's orientation? Please help!!!

I got a letter dated 6/22/2009 stating my app was approved and my orientation date is 7/20/2009. I have been in touch with my recruiter every week and so far there have been no changes except for the pay (I am now told they only offer per diem pay to new hires). What have they said is the reason for the change? I hope it gets worked out for you. Keep us posted.

The first delay they made no excuse for. Just basically told him "sorry, we don't know why you were told that but it's wrong." This time around they are saying that they don't have the results of his physical which he took on 06/29. He called several times to check on it and get his ticket for orientation & his recruiter just never called back until today at which point he was told again, "sorry, there is nothing we can do now. Your spot has already been given to someone else next week and we can't get you in again until 07/27." This is very frustrating for us and we are just starting to become a little concerned as to whether or not this is what we can expect from the company or if we should maybe look into trying to grovel for a spot at one of the other companies he passed up for Roehl. I guess we'll see. Thanks for your input...the per diem only pay really sucks too. I thought they gave you a choice. :-(

I took my physical on 6/23/2009. My recrutier told me she hasn't gotten mine yet either. It was done thru Allied Medical here in Knoxville. I told her I have the long form and medical card in my possesion and I would fax to them. She said no need to. I will call and check on this tomorrow. If they still don't have it, I will go to medical facility and have them fax it while I'm there.

Roehl recruiter just told me Ellenwood orientation may be full and I may have to go to Marshfield. She will call me back later to let me know for sure. What's up with that? I've been scheduled for Ellenwood since 6/23/2009. If they switch me to Marshfield, I'll have to figure out how I'll get my car back home. That's approx a 16 hour drive!!!!

grc56... you already have your cdl from a school correct?? I'm going to see a cdl school rep in a few hours and pretty much made up my mind I want to go with Roehl. My question to you is do they pay for the hotel while your in orientation? There website states you are responsible for room and board. After paying for school, I won't even have enough money to eat with let alone a hotel room. Also congrats on getting in with them and at least they are willing to spring for a rental for you.

OOPS!! I meant to post this on the Roehl decision thread. Sorry grc56.

Yes I already have my CDL from school down here in TN. I assume they are paying for hotel (Clearwaters Hotel) during orientation. My letter states I will be sharing the room. You might want to check with a Roehl recruiter to see if your school is accepted by them. I know Roehl and Crete are picky about which schools they accept students from. See if you qualify WIA financing for you school. WIA is part of Obama's stimulus package to get people working.

Yeah my wife and I make too much to qualify for that funding. So it looks like a personal loan from my credit union to pay for this. I'm going with Sage Technical Services for my CDL and there are Roehl posters all over the place there. Ok, not all over the place but there was one or two and they said Roehl accepts Sage students. The other Co. they was really wanting me to check out was Watkins/Shepard Trucking. I do believe they are the ones she said will pay for tuition but I'm locked into them for she thought was 2 years... but I'm not positive. But I would prefer Roehl over any other... at least right now. If I can get the funding quick enough, school starts 7/27. Time enough for my 2 weeks notice and to get some paperwork done.

I didn't like being under contract to a company for schooling so that's why I went the way I did. Plus once you get your CDL you can pick who you go to work for. Both my wife and I are excited for this new career to get started. She plans on riding with me some of the time since our kids are grown and out of the house. Good luck

Yeah I know my wife likes to travel too but we just had a grandson born 5 weeks ago. Youngest one is now 18, so I think once I get some miles under my belt and some bills caught up and/or paid off, I think she would come with me too. Until it's winter and that's when she hides underneath the blankets to stay warm. Yeah contracting is my last resort. Either way I'm paying a loan off to get my career off the ground. I wish you and your wife the best of luck and many happy miles together.
