Alternator spacer

I put the Cummins big cam in my 95 Freightliner and the alternator does not fit correctly.

I looked at another fld120 with an n14 and apparently that mount moves the alternator back a little over an inch and it may even raise it up higher. That is the situation that I need.

The original alternator for the big cam had no spacer on it, but the one that was on the n14 did have a spacer on it to make up for how the mount moved the alternator back.

So my question is

1) is there somewhere that I can purchase that correct spacer and maybe the pulleys also?

2) is there any way to tell, before I order a mount over the internet, if all of the n14 alternator mounts are the same or whether this is a specific Freightliner Mount?

I did call Freightliner and the mount is available for about $80 more than it would cost online.

The pulleys are available, but the parts person said there is no spacer that comes with that. She said they only show a pulley and an alternator. But there is a spacer unless it is part of the pulley.

 

I think I'm going to be best off getting it through the dealer.

The mount that works for the n14 on the Freightliner is a little bit different than the one that's on the big cam. It just sets the alternator in a different spot so you have more room.

The pulley really is like a match set with the alternator bracket so everything rides in the right place to line your belts up.

So I think I'm going to go to the dealer route.

 

Does your truck have an n14?

The dealer wants 160 for the mount and $60 for the pulley. I don't think that's too bad.

I might be able to save some money if I found the mount in a junkyard, but I don't think anyone in the junkyard will have that pulley for me. And I'm beginning to think that mount for the Freightliner is Freightliner specific.

It's interesting because the n14 mount for the Freightliner moves the alternator backward and maybe even upward. The pulley that goes along with that actually has a built-in spacer that's made right into it. You can see it in the photo that it's extended out from the alternator.

I have to go back up to look at that other truck again but I think that pulley is even offset so it sits a little farther forward.

With the right combination of that mount and that pulley there's enough room to mount it and everything lines straight up for the belts.
