So there we are. The three nuclear plants that had problems in 70 years. We currently have 450 active nuclear plants, and three mile island and Chernobl plants were like comparing the safety of a Model T to a current model Mercedes.

 

I'm just saying we were lucky. Kudos to Carter strolling around through the reactor to ease the minds of people.

So a nuclear reactor having a problem in the middle of the Los Angeles would be as easy to fix as a crashed car?

 

No. The old models were easy to screw up because it relied on complex controls and everything being the way it's supposed to be, but the new ones are much better designed and mostly computer controlled with lots of safety features. It took 2 unprecedented natural disasters to take down fukushima and it's a learning experience which will allow us to make them even safer.

 

So if it melts down in Los Angeles it will be another learning experience. (Enter 9.0 magnitude earthquake)

 

Aside from Wind/Solar/Hydro it's the best we've got.
