I have a 97, 9400 that has the reverse interlock. I want to regear it and have rears with the standard interlock, has anyone changed the plumbing on the switch and parking brake to swap back over to a regular setup?
Can a guy change out the interlock setup on the rear itself from a standard one to the reverse setup on a 404 front rear?

Any gear rebuilder will be able to get you reverse air lockout diffs for your International. International used this method for many years so parts should not be a problem.

Reverse interlock? Don't want to highjack but could someone elaborate on that?
magoo68 and Roberts450 Thank this. -
But I already have a set, plus I do not like the reverse set up at all, why work the fork that much when there is no need or benefit?
If I do buy some more, I will go new not rebuilt, and they have already told me they may not even be able to get new ones, but weren't sure. If I change gear ratios, it is pretty much the same price for new ones and keep my old ones as it is to buy rebuilt ones.
A modelCat. international in their wisdom for several years made the interlock work backwards, it locks when you take the air away from it instead of locking with air, and locks every time you set the brake.
The reasoning that they explained to me was because most road trucks just have spring brakes on one axle, this way when parked all both axles are locked together, and supposedly hold better. lol -
Interesting. I've never ever heard of that setup before. I can shut my brain off for the rest of the day now that I learned 1 new thing lol.
Roberts450 and okiedokie Thank this. -

Reading this post just now....
Now that explains how our 1991 international dump truck works.
All the trucks I’ve worked on uses air pressure to engage the interlock but this international dump truck uses air to unlock.
This system had me confused for a while.
This is likely the reason why the interlock broke.
The truck was driving loaded on dry hot pavement for sometime and the interlock would not unlock.
The switch in the dash was not getting air and I couldn’t unlock the interlock to verify it was working properly as the power divider unit was just rebuilt after blowing up.
Once I finally got the air switch to work properly, then I was able to unlock the interlock.
This truck also has parking spring brake chambers on all 4 corners. -
You would have install and plumb a pilot valve to the lock to work the way you want.

I am thinking I should be able to block off the line from the parking brake valve and just install a different interlock valve and switch for the light, and it should work normal, I think.
