I am looking at an 06 star with what he claims is a 12.7, 515 detroit in it. What differences can I expect from a 99 that I own, I am sure they have added some junk in between the years.

12.7L wouldn't be in a 2006 unless it was transplanted. Even then I believe the 12.7L was a 500hp engine. If its got EGR, its a 14L.

    If its rated at 515 then it's a 14l
    06 should be a 14L ddec5 egr engine

I'm my honest opinion the ddec4 you had in the 99 was a way better engine.

You will notice way less fuel mileage and higher repair costs because of egr, vgt turbo and the actuators that go along with that BS

Ok, I knew it would have an egr, and have heard there is easy work arounds for it, I did not know and do not like the sound of the vgt turbo and actuators, that lessons my interest in it a bunch.

Starmac i have the 05 version 12.7, 455hp and the turbo and actuator have never caused me a lick of trouble. Or the motor.

i swapped out the turbo and actuator at 750k only because I haul pigs and CAN'T be on the side of road ( I have a very conservative predictive maintenance program that I am well aware costs me money by changing parts prematurely, but you can loose your whole business by delivering a load of dead pigs, so it's worth it, to me.)

But my point is i wouldn't be afraid of it. Who knows i might have taken them over 1.0 mill.

The engine runs great , I have never been in it except for overheads, and it uses no oil between changes.

I never knew there was a 12.7L EGR Series 60. I was under the impression that the 12.7L disappeared once EGR came on scene. They did make a 14L pre-EGR Series 60 for a few years though.

Ya, I think ddec v 12.7 lasted until 2007 , or maybe until the 2nd generation of emmision control. I' ll have to look up the year.

According to Wikipedia they made the 12.7L until 2007. Cool I didn't know that.
