Looking at Trans Am for TX regional gig. Work 5 days on with 48 off at home each week. Flat rate $180/day with ability to make $200 each day, so $1k per week. I live 20 miles from Rockwall, TX terminal. I'm not trying to get rich here, but rather get my 1 year experience down to put me in a better position to be more selective in my long term goals/company of choice.

Any thoughts on this from any Trans Am drivers or drivers in general??

    Thanks for reading

There are several threads on here about Trans Am, mostly less than desirable.. I do know from speaking with several people they will try to shove the lease a truck down your throat.

Did 3 years OTR before taking a local job. Not a bad company if you arent a bad employee. i saw a lot of changes when i was there so i think they are trying to improve. They have good local and dedicated routes now then they did before.

I won't do a lease purchase., nor will I be intimidated. If I refuse, I'm wondering if they will let me go...?? Only plan on doing 1 year then moving on. After tons of research, I don"t really see any training company as being ideal, so Trans AM has good equipment and close to my house, so I guess they the winner. I can't do a hair-test right now, so that also limits my options. I need to get going now!!

I highly doubt you would be let go for not doing a lease purchase. Just keep saying no, that's the right idea. Do what you can do and get your year knocked out. Best of luck.

I live in Mesquite, and drive for J Rayl Transport out of their Sunnyvale terminal. I’m not getting rich, but I talked with a Trans Am driver at Love’s (she had locked herself out of her truck, I was trying to help her out), and they apparently don’t pay squat. J Rayl is a pretty good outfit, you might consider them instead.

I would say spend your time with Trans AM, and keep dropping local applications . 900-1000$ a week running local is easy to find around DFW, and a lot of companies will hire you with 6 months experience.
Class B pays well around here also, you’ll make 65k a year running a trash truck 60hrs a week.

I appreciate the feedback my fellow truckers. I have lots of Class B experience with tankers, flatbed, and box trucks. Surprisingly, I actually have 3 months of Class A TT hauling diesel out in the oilfields in summer 2018. They brought me on for a class B gig, but after only 1 week they needed me to train in the Class A truck due to shortage of drivers. Not sure how they pulled that off insurance wise, but they did. I spent the 1st month with a trainer not only learning how to operate a TT safer, but also the tasks required to load/unload the fuel, etc. I spent the next 2 months solo. Had to bail out of the oilfield for personal reasons.

I have an additional 2 months in a day cab 53' dry van for a local company right after the oilfield gig. I only lasted there 2 months b/c I slip seated like 3-5 times per shift and it became a royal pain, and in my opinion, somewhat dangerous in some ways.

For the past 5 months I have been working a Class A gig, but not a tractor trailer. Was a dump truck with pup dump trailer. This job is super physical and my body is wearing out from 40 years of being active with sports, military stuff, other CDL jobs that were physically demanding. And it's a 1099 gig and I'm about done with that.

So I have several years Class B experience, 5 months total tractor trailer experience with an additional 5 months of Class A non TT experience. Obviously I'm not a straight outta school rookie, but I'm not experienced either.

I'm kinda in a weird place regarding mega carriers being able to accept me. I'm long past being a recent CDL graduate. And I don't have 6 months TT experience; only 5. So some companies have said I don't qualify for a training/finishing program b/c I'm not a recent CDL graduate, nor can I test out for solo b/c I don't have the 6 months TT. Makes no sense. But Trans AM and USA truck will take me.

What happens after one year? Why do you need to get a year experience? I get confused by this idea that I see on here all the time. I’m still pretty green, been driving a year and a half. But I don’t remember anything magical happening on my 1 year anniversary, aside from a coffee cup.

B/C I ultimately want to come back local. But most jobs I've seen for the type of local I have in mind requires 12 months TT. I have 5 months, so really I have could work for 7 more months to a aquire 12 total. But I'd like to see the country for a full year so that's the plan. And I know "1 year" isn't something magical, however, it def opens more doors for what my specific plan is
