I saw one 2mo ago at the scale house just south of Falfurious, Tx. He waved me through as they had atleast 6 other trucks in there.
I didn't know USDOT worked state scales

I know two of them personally, and looking at their uniform or the vehicle they drive, you would not know they are not state employees, but they are paid by the feds, one is actually paid by homeland security, and they do enforce truck regs, just like any other dot.
You may have seen another type of fed, but their is one stationed at the San Jon scales, I have drank quite a bit of beer with him. lol
He looks just like any other dot there.
We also have a federal city cop here, he just writes seatbelt and vehicle violations, he doesn't care if you blow by him doing a hundred miles an hour as long as you have mudflaps on your pickup and your seatbelt on. We call them the click it or ticket cops.mhyn Thanks this. -
I don’t feel like this is worthy of its own thread but also relevant..
Apparently in Ohio on top of the standard state police, motor carrier enforcement police, truck certified sheriffs/municipal police, the Public Utilities Commission also has authority to perform truck enforcement??? Their cruisers say something like “Hazmat Enforcement” on the back but I saw one with a nonplacarded dry box pulled over a few weeks ago doing an inspection and had to double take. Seems like yet another avenue of revenue generation for the state -
Been there and done that. Twice.

Montana also has tax agents that will be at the scales every now and again dipping tanks for dyed fuel.

I got a level 1 from a fmcsa inspector in Delaware about 10 years ago .
I was a little worried when he came out in his uniform from fmcsa telling me to park .
Butttt ...super nice guy and gave me a clean inspection after I adjusted up a trailer brake a couple clicks .starmac Thanks this. -
South dakota and iowa too.
-
They say PUCO on them and have to call out a trooper or carrier enforcement to issue a citation.racemaxx24 Thanks this.
