It was like a high or rush to push our luck and get away with it.
Even if we were still on paper logs today, couldn't run that hard due to drug tests required today.
DOT Physical took about 5 or 10 minutes.
Average miles a week on paper?

I’ve never used pills. The only thing I consumed to stay awake was Red Bull and only when I worked locally in Chicago and Kansas City.
I worked 20+ hour shifts dropping and hooking trailers. Such fun times, I was in my early 20s and saving money for a car.
That lasted about 2 years and I moved on to OTR for more money.
Now 5 years later I still can’t even have a sip of Red Bull without gagging

Unfortunately, I never used paper log and more than likely I wont ever use one. I do keep one in my binder just in case my ELD stops working.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
For a short while, I needed more home time. The company let me do yard switching and shuttling trailers; empty's to the dairy and milk loads back to the warehouse. Long hours, but drove me crazy. Seeing those reefer trucks at night on the interstate made it worse because that's where I wanted to be. Seeing the names on some of those trucks and I knew they were coast to coast outfits; that made it worse for me Those coast to coast running nights with a thermos of hot coffee and XM radio was heaven.

3000 miles per week Mon-FR, that seemed to be the most common. However a lot of people were running close to 4k and still do actually. I don't know how they are planning to operate when they switch from Aobrd to Eld
FlaSwampRat and Chinatown Thank this. -
I have run some hard miles at times when needed, but averaging a lot of miles has never been any goal of mine, and I would hate to know I needed 3000 a week to make it work.

I would drive till I was tired. Sleep till I woke up.
During the day it was just a nap.
During the night. It was 4 - 6 hours sleep. Till mother nature kicked in.
When mother nature wakes me up. I used to be able to just go back to sleep. Not anymore. Now I slowly wake up fully.
I've never been able to sleep like the gooberment wants. Unless whiskey was involved.
It does get old though. Sleep, drive, sleep, drive. -
If you guys want to hear/ watch a great podcast on sleep performance, watch Dr. Matthew Walker on Joe Rogan. Very interesting stuff.
