Yeah I currently have a two year card. Even my own doctor considered the one year card but it would have required me to see a specialist and pay out of pocket so I begged for a third test and just barely passed. If I score some pills, will they show up when I piss test? And if so is there a penalty for not disclosing it??

I don't think it shows up on a drug test. Many drivers don't disclose BP pills. High sugar levels show up and can fail you, but never heard of BP meds showing.
Maybe some other drivers will chime in on this.

Thanks for the info. Yeah Im probably borderline diabetic too with my horrible eating habits but idk. I’m about 20-30 pounds overweight. My own doctor is pretty chill. He’s a DO who passes anybody who pays as long as they’re not dead or dying in his office. So high blood sugar is a DQ too huh? Guess I’ll have to wait and see...

High blood sugar can be a disqualifier unless you can get it under control.
Ask your doctor about getting some Metformin pills.
Do some brisk walking every day; this can bring down BP and high blood sugar. 30 or 45 minutes walking is all you need. I wouldn't change jobs until I'm sure or go with a company that doesn't require a new physical.

I do not think the physical actively tests for diabetes, the reason I say that is I have had friends that had to take insulin shots and they got by for years, just checking no on the form asking if they were ever diagnosed with it. The way I understand it, if it can be controlled without the shots, it is not a disqualifier anyway.

    Been there done that...

    1. Take BP meds at least a week before the exam to give them time to work. BTW...they aren't tested for on a pee test.

    2. Tell them you have "whitecoat syndrome" (A condition that causes BP to spike when in the presence of a medical professional) and you need to lie down in a quiet room for 15 minutes before the test. Make them measure your BP while you are still lying down.

    3. Reduce your salt and caffeine intake several days before the test.

    4. Use mental visualization to picture something calming and pleasant during the test.
    5. Ask for a second or third test if the results aren't acceptable.

If they issue you a 3 month or other unacceptable med certificate you have the right to go to another place and try again. If you pass on the second attempt it automatically trumps the first test when you take it to the motor vehicle place.

Now all that said, and if it were me, I'd pass on a company that requires you test again on something you already passed. Good luck!

many companies want a new test. I failed the blood pressure once and was given a 90 day physical. They wanted me to go to a doctor and get on meds, and that would mean a 1 year card, so I opted to get it down myself, and had never failed before. I cut back on salt and ate more garlic for the 30 days and passed.
For some reason they can take a test on my left arm, and it will be higher than taking the test on my right, not why this is but it has been done several times now.

I assume that with most independent doctors, like mine for example, just your word on a check yes or no is good enough. With concentra and us health works, I’ve heard they go so far as to do stupid stuff like pull out tape measures and wrap them around your neck. I can only imagine that this is one big $cam where Doc A says you’re “sick” and sends you to Doc B who then kicks a little something back to A. It’s why “pre-diabetes” and 120/80 instead of 140/90 are becoming the benchmarks in modern medicine. The only problem is that guys who don’t have decent insurance, or any at all, get completely screwed in the process. And unfortunately, the worlds “unhealthiest” profession also is one of the strictest when it comes to “physical fitness” testing. But that’s only my opinion, and I don’t pretend to know much of anything for sure or I wouldn’t be here asking for advice lol

Also, I believe that testing on your left arm is considered to be “more accurate” than on your right. I got a passable reading on the right but on the left I’m always too high

Just so we're clear, you said you already passed the medical. With the numbers you gave I'm assuming they gave you a one year medical.
You can challenge this with another test (as described above) but I'm not sure what might happen if you are taking multiple tests. The feds may label you as a "doctor shopper" and yank your certificate.

So my advice is to bail on the current company and seek one that will accept your current medical....just wanted to be crystal clear.
