I don't know if this should be here in the gadgets forum or over in the ELD forum. But anyway, I have used Qualcomm and peoplenet. Both devices I notice broadcast a wifi network. When I asked safety about it, I was told it recently was put into the devices but as of now, Qualcomm and Trimble won't give out the passwords. Ok I thought but then remembered I recall seeing the wifi networks on these devices back in '14, before it was mandated that everyone had to switch to a compliant ELD system. Anyone else notice these networks and have you heard anything from your respective safety departments?

The option is available for it to provide an access point. It's another feature that can be enabled for a price.
While it may be visible, I doubt it is active. Just LAN and not WAN.tscottme Thanks this. -
Gotcha. I figured it is available either now or in the future....for a price lol

Cars come with wifi. And even though it's not active. It's still visible.
My Chev Cruze is through ATT. Cost $20 per month unless the price went up.
When I bought the car. I had Verizon phone. The car worked better so I switched my phone to ATT. And deactivated the car. I don't see the need for a phone and car hotspot.
My phone or any other device for that matter. Can pick up the car. But can't connect.
My guess would be there's a subscription. And it would connect to one of the 4 carriers.
