Cat "blue goo" rust preventive.

    Talking about the rust preventive that Cat reman puts on cylinder heads. I am positive that the guy who applies it goes home looking like a Smurf. Usually just clean it up with rags and electrical contact cleaner. Curious if anyone has actual Cat literature on it and the their cleaning procedure. Always assumed it was oil and fuel safe because they get it everywhere. Any feedback appreciated.

    We just toss them in our big hot water pressure wash cabinet for a few minutes. Rinse with clean water to remove the soap residue, blow dry and immediately soak it in WD40 to keep from rusting. Brake clean takes the WD40 off easy.

    This was pretty much the same procedure we use when I worked for caterpillar.

    Steam clean and blow dry is the best method I found. Gets a head from sticky to clean in short order. Cold just doesnt cut it either. Nasty stuff indeed. But I've never found any rust on anything coated with the stuff either.

    I worried about getting around the valve seals and always had some blue goo left in places. Never had a problem.

    I have a fan tip and your not gonna get stripping paint close. I always blow out the ports thoroughly to be sure to get all the water off the top of the valves. After washing with hot water the residual after blow off almost evaporates. There is always some small crannies that get missed.
