Front tires

We’ve had Michelin, Firestone, Bridgestone and bfgoodrich steers.

We are now trying out Cooper Road Masters on the steers.

So far so good. They’re wearing well.

On the dump trucks, the 425 wide based Cooper RM don’t seem to last long.

I find the Road master drive tires to be short lived tires as well. So likely not going to that type again.

 

I bought ten Michelin X multi energy Z for summer wear two summers ago. $650.00 each.

The theory being i could rotate out any chop/ irregular wear from the steers.

The theory worked, but the tires suck. Not worth any where near what i paid for them.

On the other hand i bought 8 Michelin XDS2 snow tires for the winter last year for just over $700.00 each. No need for chains. I can climb a tree with 'em. Never hesitate going out in the worst weather on unplowed back country roads in northern New England. Worth every penny.

 

I had a set of those XDS2's on my log truck, it picked up the nickname of billy goat. lol

 

Buying Michelins at full price is what hurts. On a national account, the price comes down substantially and makes the Michelnis the best tire for the $ imo.

 

What do you mean by national account?

I'm on their program ( the name escapes right now), but I didn't seem much evidence of a discount. Lol

 

Michelin advantage is for owner ops takes a hundred or so off a tire but they're still pretty steep on price

 

I have never known how the whole national account deal worked for a trucker. I have never had one as a truck owner.
I did have as a shop owner and loved them, we actually got more for both the tires and the service calls when a company went through their national account.

I was at costco here the other day and noticed they had some michelien truck tires, I did not price them

 

Yep, that's it. Couldn't think of the name! Shoulda been easy enough to remember that. Don't ever get old!

I'm not sure I got the hundred though. Gonna be a lot more careful next spring when I order the new set. Not sure if I'll use all- position again.

 

I want to say it was around that last time I priced steers but again I'm not sure either and I could be off.

Honestly I want to say I gave like 565 a tire for that steer it was the x line energy steer..."supposedly" according to my tire guy was supposed to run out 20% longer than my xza 3 steers (loved those btw) at 90k they were shot I sold that truck with those steers on it and never would have bought them again. I'm back to long haul now so I may consider throwing michelin tires back on, just have to wait and see.

I've got iron man steers now, 4 leo drives and 4 ling long drives. So far so good on both steers and drives for cheap Chinese and Korean crap. If memory serves me right I can put 2 sets of these cheap tires on for the price of michelins. Honestly for the money I've had the best luck with falcon that the coop sells. And they're a USA tire I'm not aware of who makes them though the only thing I didn't like was they didn't have the grove in the shoulder if I remember right. Decoupler grove is what it's called I want to say but cant remember just know it dissipates heat and improves tire life
