Interesting. When I came out the shower the guy had pulled his truck up even with the rest of the trucks. I think someone else tried to back into that spot a little while ago. I saw commotion in that area. That spot really looks empty with that dark truck way in the back. I'm glad he pulled up.

It's called being courteous to other drivers. Some of us were raised to think about others, some weren't.

Not true. The spot I was originally trying to get was only 3 trucks away. It was 1 in the afternoon, there were spots everywhere. I just hadn't gone quite far enough down the isle so the opening I saw in my mirror that I backed into was the bobtail hole not the full spot that I had seen.

Again I'm not blaming him but the company I work for is real funny about damage at truck stops. A driver got fired because someone backed into him at a truck stop and he was in the drivers seat and didn't do anything. I say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If pulling your truck up 15 feet will prevent someone from thinking the spot is open and possibly making your truck a foot shorter, why not do that?

Whenever I’m bobtail and want to park I always look for a drop lot and I take a trailer to the truck stop and park and take my break and then I return the trailer the next day..hoping it wasn’t reported stolen.
That way nobody complains that I took a full spot.

I look down on any bobtail in a full spot even if there are two in one spot.

These parking police posts always crack me up. If I’m bobtail I’m going to park where it’s legal to do so. I’m not going to shopping center or some other random spot and not have access to a restroom or a shower just because I fit in their lot.

Lol I agree. What a stupid notion that just because there’s no trailer attached the truck is not allowed to park in a truck designated parking space.

If I’m bobtail and there’s no where else I can park without risking being told to leave, I look for the biggest pita spot I can find and park there.

I pulled power only for a short while, about the only thing I really liked about it was I could go about anywhere I wanted to when I delivered a trailer.

If u wanted the spot u shouldve got there earlier... I have driven bobtail to shopping malls and other places where i can fit and guess what they dont care that u dont have trailer.they will bang on ur door just as hard demanding u to leave. U dont like that i took a spot, dont care, my logbook is the same as yours and im at a truck stop in a truck. Now if ur talking about campers and rvs taking spots then i see ur point but even then, they are parked legally as well.

The only thing that really irks me about bobtail parking is when there’s 11 of them from the same company parked taking 11 full spots up, usually not even there to take a full break. But I realize company drivers for large carriers are essentially the same with each other as they are with any other passing truck drivers in terms of speaking. Doesn’t make it less aggravating.

Last year I was on my way to grab a new trailer and stopped at the Loves in Memphis IN. There was a pull thru spot near the shop with a USX bobtail at the front of it, so I circled around and pulled in behind him as to not take another full spot. USX driver actually got out shortly after and knocked on my door, completely perplexed as to why I parked behind him lol

I parked bob tail at Flying J in Phoenix one night, my trailer was being loaded at Pet Smart.
I took a full spot in the afternoon and kept an eye out, as things started to get full I noticed another bobtail looking for a spot. I flagged him down and confirmed he needed a spot and what time in the morning he wanted to leave. So I backed in deeper into the spot and had him park in front of me.
    Sharing is caring.
