Front tires

I always had wicked good luck with the XZA line for steers. I did try Chinese tires once years ago and I couldn't keep the front end from bouncing all over the road. Tried dismounting and remounting , I have centramatics, nothing would keep them on the ground. Thankfully they wore out quick .

 

My front end feels that way at times but they came with the truck so well see how it goes. I'll second the xza loved those tires. The new redesign I wasnt impressed with. But that was regional service not long haul. Might try them again but if I cant get 120+ out of them i wont bother with them again.

I could have sworn they had usa on the side but I could have been mistaken either way they were well for what they were put through. Price was decent on them too for the money

 

even the big name brand tires can be out of round. buy cheap and get them trued

 

I have had long wear from Samson brand tires on steer and moved to trailer when they get down to 3/4 worn down?

 

Negative on the Kelly’s. Had one out of round. I’m done with Kelly’s

591s are hard to beat. Basically a Bridgestone ( retired to Firestone) for 2/3 the price. I’ve been running them for over 10 yrs now, 100-140 k on steers, then run them, that much on drives

We had some tires like that in the past. Not necessarily one particular or another, but when your tractor with trailer becomes as they say a Billy Goat in really bad weather, it gets to be motivating.

The last time I took on winter proper with a semi was the St Georges UT surprise storm. Lunch time came and went that day pretty blue and all that, within hours they called for 4 inches. while that's falling the closer we got to St Georges the Television and NOAA were calling for a foot then two plus by dinner.

And so it was. We had Yokos up front and Bridgestones on drives Trailer contained a mix of spares gathered from the company pile as needed. The best benefit I think that storm was we usually ask for and receive a full set of 10 virgin tires every October or first ice whichever is first. They don't particularly like it but they know we are going into harms way and need good tires for that. And so it was.

Another memorable storm left two to three foot drifted powder under our Michelins back in about 1994 or so. On US 322 in PA. I was trapped in range bound RPM of about 200 or so, more than that she spins out, less than that she gets stuck. Either way you are effed. Fortunately she went up and over well enough. (We had about 500 horses ungoverned that day.) Think it was 8% for 5 miles or so twisty down.

 

Wal Mart has 22.5 Yokos 577s and 617s shipped to store or home, depends, I guess on your location. $417-$428 ea.

You get what you pay for.

 

you do. but my quote was that even big name brands can. is it less likely. yes. but if your at the loves or petro and they are just adding lots of weight and its a michelin. i would have them check a different tire.
