Do you have manual or electrical fan. Do you see airline going to the fan housing. Can you turn the fan by hand when engine not running??
-
I will check tonight when I go in. I know there is a wire coming off it into a harness. It's a wire not a air line

There is a wire the goes to the fan. I can turn the fan by hand has a little resistances.

Looks like this. And cable connects to the plug on a side of the alternator.

The same fan I have on my truck. Usually it comes on trucks with XE package. With a Volvo software you can see the percentage of engagement of this fan, it’s always spinning just at different speed, when you don’t need it it’s at around 20%. Whenever you start cold truck it’s usually engaged at 95% which sucks in a winter when you trying to warm up the truck ASAP. Other then a test drive with a laptop connected and monitoring that percentage of the engagement can’t tell you how to test them.

I unplugged and still stays running. I have another truck and it goes on and off like is suppose to. I run it with the a/c off and defroster off and it still stays running. This truck i have to recharge the Freon every year around spring time It has a small leak somewhere that know-body can find. Can it be a Freon problem?

There’s no Freon in contact with this fan, you can try to add a dye to the Freon and see if you can find a trace of it where it’s leaking. You can always retrofit air controlled fan clutch on this engine.
