I have a very similar turn that I take on the way to the hub, and I do it the same way. Stay in the far right lane, because that's the lane I need to be in, plus my trailers can clear the turn while staying in my lane.

I had another driver lecture me about it one time, saying it's illegal to turn from there, but I think it's far safer instead of taking the outside lane and risking a car sneaking up into the path of my trailers as I'm turning. When I make the turn while pulling a 53' van, I take up both right turn lanes and finish the turn in the right lane.

Does anyone else have a day every once in a while where it seems like you can't back up? I get one now and then and I was thinking how much that is gonna suck now that backing up is literally 90% of my job lol.

I know the feeling. Had to move some city vans in the yard the other day and put them to doors. Been a good year since I’ve pulled anything besides a pup. Looked like a fresh out of class cr England driver trying to back into a spot at a crowded truck stop lol.

    Someone WILL blame you.

For not slowing down and letting that guy in.

    Most likely the tow driver.

Not only do I have days where I feel like I can’t back up, I occasionally have the days where I can’t line my lead trailer up to my dolly to save my friggin life.

I can hear him in court now....

“But, but.... Your honor, he’s a professional and should’ve know to allow for the fact that I’m a moron”.

That brings up an old memory from when I had just started driving. Two exit lanes at an interchange, but in my case they split to go east and west on another highway. A dump truck ran up intending to merge in front of me at the last second. I was even backing down a little to let him in and avoid something stupid, but it was heavy traffic and cars were right on my tail so I couldn't slow down too fast. We'd almost made enough room when he ran up on slower traffic in his lane and I kept going. He ended up heading east instead of west, hollering over the radio about how I forced him onto the wrong ramp.

I actually felt bad about it, being an inexperienced driver. Then I realized that he had plenty of time to merge beforehand but had decided to try and cut in just before the split. By the time I got where I was going I was giggling like a schoolgirl, because the direction he ended up on, there isn't an exit for about 15 miles. His attempt to save a few seconds ended up costing half an hour or so to get turned around and backtrack. Served him right.

I’m driving during daytime now and everyday I have 4 wheelers go on shoulder to pass me or to cut me off.

On 70 west in Indiana the other night, an Estes truck in front of me moved over for a car on the shoulder with their left blinker on, and I followed suit.

Instead of merging into the right lane, they literally took a left in front of us in order to do a u-turn from the right shoulder to the left shoulder facing the other direction. Why? Because they missed the median crossover and wanted to head back east. The Estes truck very nearly T-boned that idiot and had to swerve to avoid them. All that risk when we were just a few miles from an exit...

It was pretty funny on Friday night there was a UPS convoy on 294. At least 8 trucks in both the far left and right lanes going 55 just completely screwing up traffic. I couldn’t help but laugh just pace them since my exit wasn’t far from the slow convoy.
