Yeah, I did my OTR training wheels with Schneider, and made 36 cpm in 2004-6. I can't imagine they're paying less than that now?

I think my Troll Alert just went off.
@Clara3 ...you need to clarify the questions about your pay. Otherwise, even with fifty posts on your first day, we're going to have serious doubts about your other statements.JOHNQPUBLIC, Aamcotrans, MachoCyclone and 9 others Thank this. -

There is no difference in loaded vs empty vs bobtail pay at Schneider. A dispatched mile is a dispatched mile. There is short haul pay and I'm guessing you are not counting the 14 cpm of "per diem" pay, but I think your perception of reality is off.
You had 7 hours left on your 70 for the remainder of the calendar day. How many hours did you get back tomorrow? Would that 7 hours have gotten you back to the DC you run out of? Or a truckstop? Or a hotel (your dime)? Did you have your TAH set and confirmed? What are the particulars of the load you refused?
Yes, you did refuse it. Schneider is forced dispatch. Once you are assigned a load it is yours. Just because you don't hit "reviewed" on the tablet doesn't absolve you of responsibility. I spent an hour in a meeting arguing that we needed to change that button from "accepted" to "reviewed" because too many drivers were under the impression that if they didn't hit "accept" that the load wasn't theirs.
I am currently sitting in the UP twiddling my thumbs on what should be my day off because I was asked to cover a load from a driver who didn't think. Friday night the driver is in South Beloit, IL and gets assigned to pick up a load in Beaver Dam,WI and run it to the UP. Driver had 6 hours on his 70 and no hours coming back Saturday morning. Dispatch had planned on him taking a 34 in South Beloit, then picking up the load Sunday morning and delivering Sunday afternoon. Driver picked up the load Saturday morning, which meant by the time he hit Green Bay he was out of hours on his 70. Ignoring for the minute the driver's poor clock management, had he run intelligently he would have been able to take his 34 in "comfort"at the J instead of at our glorified drop of a yard in GB and would have 200 more miles in the same time period.
I ran into a dbl as I was scanning my bills Saturday afternoon and was asked if I could cover. I'm getting compensated for it, and it's not a big deal. When I got to the yard Sunday morning I went into the break room to make some tea before heading out and found the driver is whining about Schneider's poor planning skills and how he got screwed to a new driver waiting for his trainer. I lit the driver up.
The APMs are idiots.
ETAI is dumber than horse apples.
We have ETAI because between idiot APMs and idiot drivers we can't seem to keep everyone on the same page, so we allow technology to do the thinking.Aamcotrans, nredfor88, MachoCyclone and 4 others Thank this. -
$.21 per mile loaded at an average of 50MPH is $10.50 per hour.
$.17 per mile empty at an average of 50MPH is $8.50 per hour.
$.15 per mile bobtail at an average of 50MPH is $7.50 per hour.
It goes down from there. Slow traffic, stopped, sitting, waiting, broke down, etc.... Now that $10.50 per hour easily becomes way less than minimum wage. Why on God's green Earth are there drivers out there working for that dismal amount of money?? The reason the carriers pay that little is because there are drivers that will accept it.GhentSaintPeters Thanks this. -
I would also say I find it very hard to believe that target would allow a truck to sit in their parking lot for 34 hours....

@Clara3 ...Can you give us more information on the pay scale you described earlier in this thread?
