Building a 3406 PCTA (92U prefix). Factory rated 375 hp. Now the OEM turbo looks ok. No turbine/compressor damage, no excessive play or housing wear. Just curious if it'd be worth putting an aftermarket turbo on it. Not really looking to make huge power. Maybe bump it up to 400-425 max but I want it to burn clean, so quick spooling would be nice. Would the factory turbo support 425 hp?
Turbo upgrade?

I can't say much about the A models, but an E model turbo, factory or a borg replacement will clean a b model right up enough to pass stringent snap tests.
-
Shouldn't matter . Same displacement 14.6L engine .
I would agree. A wastegated turbo off a E model would be a great replacement. If all your shooting for is maybe 425 hp . Maybe a turbo for a 435hp E model. -
Afraid to ask what one would be worth from Cat. Borg Warners any cheaper?
-
Lots cheaper

Cheaper, and better as far as I am concerned. I put the waste gated one on mine, where most of the guys here run the non waste gated one, and got exactly what I wanted. I was not really after a lot more boost, but wanted it to spool up faster and at lower rpms. I am happy as a clam with it runs.

I will see if I have it written down somewhere, the turbo is on the truck I wrecked, and right now it is a pain to open the hood. lol. they did finally send someone out for pictures and the insurance company should be deciding what is going to happen with it. Hopefully I will be able to pull her in in a week or so and get started on it.
It is the common one that everybody recommends for everything from the b model 425 to the 550 e model. -
Hmm I wonder.... a waste gated E model turbo on a B model....
I’ll have to speak to my boss about that.
I’ve already told him that we should try an ACERT C15 compound on a E model..... -
