I signed up years ago (5 - 6 maybe?) for a PayPal debit card. I am locked into a 5% cash back rate for every credit card purchase I make with it. It's actually a debit card, and not a credit card, but I am required to run as credit when I fuel to qualify for that 5%. You guys wouldn't believe how much money that 5% cash back card has saved me over the years.

Not sure you can still get one at that rate these days??? a quick Google search only comes up with a 1% cash back currently, but even then it would still be a healthy discount. Oh, and for icing on the cake PayPal pays 5% interest on your balance. Have used it for fuel purchases, auto parts, down payment on equipment. If there is a $ cap on it, I haven't find it yet. It is also the easiest way I have found to move money from one account to another. I suck that money from one checking account about bank X into my PayPal account, in a few days (once the money shows in PayPal) I can then transfer it to any other checking/savings at bank Y or any other account listed on my PP account. No fees to do this either. I believe you can also have them send you a paper check in the mail, but that does cost a couple of bucks.

 

I pretty much haul exclusively for one elevator (company).

Harvest around here normally starts in early to mid Sept and goes till late October. Last year was really strange because the corn was so late getting planted due to the wet spring, I don't think we got a load of corn out of the field till October. And it lasted till almost Thanksgiving. This year could be even more strung out, there was a little corn planted early, then a little here and there, seemed like forever. Shoot, there were people still trying to put beans in the ground last week. And part of it depends on how much the big boys want to dry their wet corn down. Most medium and small farmers around here let their corn dry in the field as much as they can stand to.

During harvest, I tell farmers that call me to get in touch with the elevator, and they might send me, or they might send another truck, but they stand a better chance of getting a truck that way. I just can't be in 3 places the same day if 3 people call me. My dad uses our other truck to haul our own grain till we get done, then joins me hauling for the elevator. We're not big farmers, so one semi keeps up with our stuff ok.

 

I hauled beans one harvest from a big Mississippi farm to a port on the Mississippi river, pretty good deal at the time. Hauled a little rice also.

 

Same as cash.

 

Does the other commodities pay a little more then wheat, like corn, beans, milo or is it the same.
