You need to face that these mega's will always try to make you look bad. That takes the spotlight off of them.
The FMCSA is an unwanted brat of a stepchild for DOT. They are funded by the mega's. Their intent is to put all the responsibility on the driver. Take responsibility off of the company. When the fact remains that any violation is 1/2 the driver, 1/2 the company. DOT does not like this at all. I was told this by a DOT officer in a Port of Entry.
I even had a report where the company was fined about something. Addressed to the company. I was listed on the side as the driver. While I was there. They did a level 3 on me. Which was clean. FMCSA somehow caught wind of this. What did they do on the report? They lied and added that I violated a local law. There is no violation of any local law on my license.
You need to face the fact that the mega's are not your friend. FMCSA and DAC reports are not for you. They're to take the responsibility off the companies. Put the spotlight on you.
Last four employers I talked to didn't want to have anything to do with DAC reports. I worked for one. But was honest from the interview. Told them I didn't know if it would work out. I knew many drivers leave that 'field'. All I can do is try. I left after 2 months. Didnt' work out. I'm working for a second one of them now.

I can't say how to get out. Just get out.
The big Orange doesn't allow intelligent life forms in the trucks. That's a deal breaker to me.
Just be honest with your dispatcher. Tell him you can't live on what you're making. Your credit has been ruined. You're not a ministry to the company. You have to find a place you can actually make good money. .... The company doesn't care about you. They care about themselves only.

Any good company uses comprehension. Even if one puts something on your DAC report. If they do look at DAC. They will comprehend where it comes from and what it actually is. These are the kind of places you want to work. Or places that consider that DAC can go to hell. They know!

To the OP, I would line up another company first, then let them run all of your info and get approved. Once you get an orientation date, I would give Schneider a two weeks notice, its makes you look more professional by doing that, and it shows you are leaving on good terms.

Secondly, wherever you turn the truck in, have your new employer buy you a ticket to wherever they have orientation, or see if they will reimburse you if you decide to fly or rent a car

When I quit my last job, I worked my 2 weeks out, turned in my uniforms, and flew to my current employer. They came and got me in Winnipeg, and put me a room 2 days earlier and through orientation

In my experience, larger companies that only see you as a number and not a person could care less if you give any notice as long as you don't abandon the truck and trailer someplace they can't easily get to it. My very first job in trucking had me doing short hauls for mileage pay, and I wasn't making enough to eat let alone a living wage. So I gave them 2 weeks notice and instead of trying to find me better loads, they left me sitting at my home terminal waiting for the phone to ring. After the second day, I walked into my dispatcher, handed her my keys and said adios.

The job I went to after that was a small 2 truck company. They offered me a salary which looked good compared to what I had been making. The guy made it sound great, and that I would usually be driving 8 hours a day with no other work. Within a week, I was loading and unloading my own trailer, driving 11 hours a day and working 5 additional hours loading and making deliveries. Finally after 6 months of that BS, I was on my 7th day almost home and out of hours when he called and told me to buy a 2nd log book because I was heading back out. Got back to the yard, left my keys in the cup holder and I was done. The owner called me saying how unethical it was that I quit with no notice, and when I explained what my boss had asked me to do he asked if I would come back for an extra .50 cents per hour. I laughed and hung up on him.

Now I'm an O/O and only argue with myself.

I knew a guy that when he got hired by Werner, all they had him doing was being dropped off at sites to rescue abandoned trucks. He also cleaned them out - not a great experience for him.

I used to say giving notice was the proper thing to do unless it’s a mega, but my own experience a year ago changed my thinking. Line up your new job and then bail. Gives less chance for them to be petty about it.

@Clara3 your posts are scaring me. But you sure are getting a lot of informative answers.
I opened up the forum today and BOOM. It seems like all the posts I am reading, and not just yours Clara, are making me want to get my money back from the CDL Program before it starts.

    What. Was I thinking?

Another thread says, "No Public Restroom???" At a designated drop? And that was IMO at situation where a trucker should be considered as working for the company.(as an outside but connected agent or industry partner) - Then all the answers back to that poster saying, "I keep a cr*p can," "People doo doo - is cat doo doo if ya got kitty litter.," "leave a steamin' pile at the dock" or "pee behind the dumpster."

Clara. Is it worth everything you have been posting about in these threads as more than a day's headache on the job?

Hands up! ~ Gamgee is getting outa Dodge

The 2 times I quit I told them the day I went home for home time. Both times they just said bring the truck back from my house. I only lived a couple of hours from a terminal. They dont care about a notice, they just want that truck back to give to another driver. I would never give notice while out on the road. You dont want to get stranded out there
