Wonder if extended oil changes has anything to with the spinner going bad? I had it replaced only once at 550k and gone close to 650k on the replacement.

KB3MMX Thanks this.

The excess oil is a sign of more serious problems in the engine. Prob a bad ring or valve allowing too much blow and forcing more oil spray thru the crank vent. -

Sorry to revive an old post, but I am having the same issue.
Engine runs, smokes and blows oil out the blow-by tube.
Shop here is saying it needs a ring job (bottom end rebuild) and wants $25,000.
So my question: could this be a bad ring or is this shop trying to rip me off?
2013 Volvo D-13 580,000 just finished a top end rebuild. -
I never had any smoke issue (Knock on wood)... just oil spilling from the engine side.
Good luck! @nasriza is very knowledgeable. Maybe he is around. -
@Caspers Ghost what kind of oil are you using and how many miles between oil changes? Replacing the separator is alot cheaper then 25k. Did this shop replace the head?
-
Mobil Delvac at 25,000 religiously.
Head was a re-manned swap out.
Im just trying to figure if I should do the rebuild or if its just this simple fix.
Little more detail: The truck was under a load. it lost all pulling power and then died. looked under truck and a large puddle of oil. added a few quarts, started up truck and smoke and spitting oil out of the tube (I assume the smoke is from heated oil) got up to about 60 mph and died again. looked and another puddle of oil, did this for about 10 miles and decided to have it towed home.
(for the days leading up to this, it was having pulling power issues when going up even the slightest incline) -

none. and no smoke coming from the stacks (is why I think this mechanic is an idiot)
