I’ve seen this visual, and it’s always confused the heck out of me!truckdriver31 Thanks this. -
I was wondering that myself, and I had the shop grease it up before I picked up this empty. I’ll try and get a pic when I drop todaytruckdriver31 Thanks this.

If the 5th wheel was all the way back, someone was going for a better ride. More weight on the steer gives a rougher ride. If it's a company truck, and handling funky, try the grease, but if you haul regular loads, find out where a legal load would be, and then leave the 5th wheel alone. Pin of trailer in between the 2 drive axles worked best for most. And a little tip, I used to grease the trailer, in front of the pin. If you grease the 5th wheel, a lot of that scrapes off when you back under the trailer. If you don't have a grease gun or tube of grease, get some. Sure as heck, the next wagon you pick up will be dry as a popcorn fart.

We prefer to keep our 5th wheel in the middle of the range. The ride isnt as smooth, but we rarely have to slide it to balance the weight. It's also a little easier to look at with a flashlight when we hook, to make sure its hooked properly, so we dont drop the trailer...

Any truckstop will have tubes of grease. You can do it this way, or if you don't want to grease the trailer part, put the grease at the back of the 5th wheel, and backing under will distribute it better. I prefer a grease gun, because funky steering could be dry steering and spring hangers, if you can do that.
