It honestly did. I seen a few episodes of that when it started up and ever since had honestly thought Canada was a lawless country for truck driving. I remember guys on the show talking about driving 40+ hours straight on ice and thinking Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! So there is honestly some truth to what they were thinking and a good reason to kick them out because to those of us that didn't know any better it made Canadian truckers look like meth addicts.

Prior to the late Eighties*, this was true. When I first drove in the oil patch in the early Eighties, log books were not required and we worked stupid amounts of hours... especially at spring break-up.
*I don't know exactly when log books became a requirement as I wasn't driving at the time.D.Tibbitt, AModelCat and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
My record was 113 hours in a week.......
Mooseontheloose, Ruthless, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -
Now was that a 60 hour week or a 70 hour week driver?

On the TV show the trucks are driving slow on ice along the lines of 20-30 mph. Usually the only thing real about Reality TV are the first 4 letters.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

Did you notice the other trucks passing them. lol
They were a danger to all truckers, always chaining and poking around when there was no need for it, always in the way and we would have to pass on the hills.
The show insisted on making some good truckers look like idiots and did their best to make some guys they brought with them look good, when we weren't sure they could even spell truck. loltscottme, FoolsErrand, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
How hard do they push you when they lift hos for cold? Just “do this n call when you want another”? Or they just roll the dispatch on you til you say stop?

Reality TV is ONLY about creating drama with whatever "props" TV producers have available in real life. Now the "news" and "sports" do the same thing.
Reality TV took off when Hollywood had a big writers strike back in the 1990s. TV producers started creating "real life" cartoons using non-union writers and non-union "actors" that were coached and led to act out stories producers want you to believe. Reality TV is all the unimportance and fake drama of daytime soap operas but with fewer stories of someone's identical twin waking up with amnesia and having Derek's baby after a sex change.D.Tibbitt and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
The new way of doing things not to use the exemption at all ..... take care of regular customers 1st and take on any call in work from other customers if we can handle it.......
Old days run till you drop or get another job.........D.Tibbitt, FlaSwampRat and Ruthless Thank this. -
